Follow our easy step-by-step guide to find out how to make a shaker card with a shaped aperture!
Shaker cards are great fun to create. You can use any size or shape of aperture that you like, and fill them with anything from sequins and glitter to beads and small die-cut shapes.
You can use acetate and sticky foam pads to create the shaker element, but you can also buy readymade shaker card pouches. Here, Kat Waskett has used acetate and foam sheets.

How to make a shaker card
Step 1. Cut white card to measure 12.8×12.8cm and die cut a large cloud shape near the top-left corner. Die cut another smaller cloud on the right-hand side, so it interlocks with the first one.
Step 2. Use a black fineliner pen to add faux stitching around the clouds, and draw rough lines along the edges of the card. Stamp an umbrella handle near the bottom edge of the card.
Step 3. Place the card onto a 12x12cm piece of 2mm-thick foam, draw around the inside of the aperture then cut it out. Glue acetate to the back of the card then add the foam on top.
Step 4. Place your card face down then add your desired shaker embellishments to the aperture. Here, a variety of coloured sequins and sparkly star gems have been used.
Step 5. Cut a piece of aqua, spotty paper and layer this, pattern side down, over the top of the cloud-shaped aperture, to seal the gems in place and complete the shaker element.
Step 6. Stamp an umbrella onto pink, heart-patterned paper then die cut it. Stamp a sentiment onto white card, trim one end into a pennant and add faux stitching, then layer onto spotty, aqua paper.
Step 7. Cut a 14.5×14.5cm white, top-fold card base. Add a slightly smaller piece of black stripy paper, then the shaker panel. Finish by adding your sentiment and the umbrella top.
