  • Black ink
  • Adhesive gems
  • Black cord

How to make a Chinese New Year card

1. Cut pale-blue card to 16x11cm, layer onto red card, leaving a narrow border, then layer onto a 17.5×12.5cm piece of gold card. Wrap black cord around the panel, towards the bottom edge, then adhere onto the front of a 19x14cm white card base.

2. Cut an 11.5x8cm frame from gold mirri card then use sticky foam pads to adhere it onto a 10.5×7.5cm piece of pale-pink card. Stick the frame panel onto a slightly larger piece of red card then adhere this towards the top-left corner of the pale-blue panel on the card front.

3. Stamp a dragon, cherry blossoms and lanterns onto white card. Colour in the images with alcohol markers and cut out. Use sticky foam pads to add the images to the frame on the card front, using bead trim to make it look like the lanterns are hanging from the branch.

4. Stamp Chinese New Year symbols and a sentiment in black ink onto white card. Cut the stamped panels to size then attach the symbols to the frame, and the sentiment to the cord.

5. To finish, stamp a lucky cat onto gold mirri, add details with a red alcohol marker, cut out and adhere to the cord. Add three black gems to the top-right corner.

How to make a Chinese New Year card

1. Using clear embossing ink, stamp the Wild Rose Studio Running Dragon onto red mirri card then heat emboss with gold embossing powder.

2. Trim the stamped image panel to 10.5×10.5cm, mat onto a slightly larger piece of black card then onto a 13x13cm piece of gold card. Cut another piece of black card to 19.5×14.5cm then use sticky foam pads to mount the layered panel on top, towards the top edge.

3. Wrap two lengths of gold ribbon around the bottom of the stamped image. Tie three gold tassels onto red-and-gold thread then wrap this around the panel, securing all ends on the reverse. Use sticky foam pads to attach the layered panel onto the front of a 20×15.5cm white top-fold card base.

4. Stamp a ‘Happy New Year’ sentiment and some Chinese symbols in black ink onto white card. Cut the ends into pennants then layer the symbol panels onto slightly larger red card pennants, and add them between the three gold tassels.

5. To finish, use sticky foam pads to stick the New Year greeting above the dragon then add black adhesive gems either side of the sentiment.
